About the Role
Manager Tasks
• Make calf feeder schedules
• Train new employees
• Make protocol changes to benefit calf health
• Identify problems and find ways to correct and maintain proper protocols.
• Run weekly or bi-weekly meetings
• Be respectful and professional as a manager
Mix milk and feeding calves
• Pasteurize Milk and Colostrum
• Mix Milk replacer correctly according to sheet if problems with pasteurizer.
• Feed milk to all calves following all set protocols.
Transportation of all newborn calves
• Loading calves in and out of transfer cart gently and safely.
• Placing all newborns in proper location.
Observing calves
• Keeping a watchful eye for any abnormalities in all calves.
• Properly diagnosing and treating sick calves.
Barn environment tasks
• Observing for air quality and dry bedding.
• Sweeping floors as needed.
• Cleaning milk buckets & bottles and equipment as needed.
Processing Calves
• Scanning white USDA buttons correctly into the scanner.
• Properly collect sample for transport.
• Use dairy comp for monitor and collect correct data of calves.
Performance standards:
• Must be capable of setting priorities and working under pressure.
• Must be able to multi-task and work productively.
• Must be able to work independently and work well as a team.
• Must have an open mind with a positive attitude.
• Must operate equipment in a safe and productive manner.
• Must handle cattle in a quiet, calm non-abusive manner.
Requirements
Experience with caring for calves.
Demonstrate a good work ethic.
Reliable and self-motivated.
Ability to learn, take instructions, problem solve and pay strong attention to detail.
Experience working independently and completing tasks without supervision, also able to work within a team.
